Valentine's Day

So last night, the husband said that he'd like to get up really early and spend some time at a coffee shop by himself. I didn't think much of it because Brad frequently does work or spends time with the Lord alone at a coffee shop but this time he wanted to do this at like 6 or 6:30 in the morning.

Let me give you a little insight on the husband:

Brad haaaaaaaates getting up early in the morning. Hates. It.

But lucky for the husband, he married a very naive wife (I didn't even think he was actually asking me to marry him right after he proposed on one knee, but I'll defend myself later on that one).

So the hubs, instead of going to a coffee shop, drove for an hour total (there and back), into another state (literally), to pick up Chick-fil-A (and a lovely rose) for breakfast!

Reheated Chick-fil-A never tasted so good :)

Brad and I aren't big gift givers. It's just not our love language - quality time is. So there are many holidays and birthdays that Brad might have something for me but I won't have something for him. Or I might have something for him and he won't have something for me. We don't trade off or anything, we just get gifts for each other as we want to - holiday or not.

I know this is very weird to some people (I'm calling you out, Dad) but it works for us. I never have to rack my brain for something to give Brad just for the sake of an upcoming holiday. If I have something on my mind, I buy it or I make it. If I don't, I don't. Same goes for the husband. Brad and I get to spend time together and that's really what we like best.

I know lots of women are getting jewelry or over-priced dinners tonight (and there's nothing wrong with that) but, for me, reheated Chick-fil-A is more than enough for Brad to show me how much he loves me. Especially considering that my days "close" (30 minutes and into Maryland) to a Chick-fil-A are numbered.

Our "over-priced" Valentine's Day grilled cheese and homemade tomato soup.

So babe, here's to many more Chick-fil-A-less Valentine's Day's in Saranac! I wouldn't want to spend them with anyone else!

And just because she's cuter than crap. Here's a little Valentine's Day card from Abilene:

Everyone, meet Abilene. Abilene, meet everyone.

Happy Valentine's Day everybody!!

  1. Yes! Branden and I are the same way and want to get gifts for each other when we are spurred to and not just for the holidays sake! Are we family or something? It's great when all we want is our men and to spend time with them. Branden and I always say that the gifts we get one another will be in a burn pile one day, but the time we invest in one another and get to spend together will be lasting and fruitful.
