Looking for a new home...
So the hubs and I spent the weekend in Saranac Lake looking for a new roof above our heads! The winter's been really mild up there this winter but there was still some snow and enough ice for us to effectively get our Vibe (love the Vibe) stuck in a friend's driveway. Bahhhh.
In our money-saving, non-Adirondack-thinking-yet minds we thought, "Eh, it's been a mild winter, why don't we leave the Jeep at home and save some money on gas? I'm sure the front-wheel, no-snow-tire Vibe will do just fine!"
It did not do just fine.
Kind of ironic/embarrassing to get stuck the first day you're back in the place you will be living very, very soon. Thankfully, a neighbor gave us some sand and the hubs used his thinking cap and huge muscles to un-stuck us. Here's to buying snow tires for both our vehicles by next winter!
I would have taken a picture for you but, in my 4 1/2 years of married wisdom, I know that pulling out my camera in a situation such as the one we were in is not the best decision to make while the hubs is un-stucking the car.
Newly married female friends: re-read the last sentence and take heed of that advice.
Anyway! Our hope is to rent for at least the first year we are living up there. If the sale of our current house goes through, we will have a small amount of profit that could be used towards the down payment of a new house. Man oh man, do we want to continue saving hardcore in order to add to that down payment! And we feel like renting a small, less-expensive apartment, would be the first step in doing that.
It was a long weekend with lots of apartment showings and lots of house showings (we did look at houses too). But in the end, we were able to apply for a small, 2 bedroom apartment in our price range. We should know by the end of the week whether or not the landlord will accept us as tenants!
So here's to hopefully letting you know that we have a new place to live by the end of the week!
