Welp, that didn't work out.

So, about the apartment we applied for...

Unfortunately we didn't get it. The landlord accepted a grant from Saranac Lake to help restore and beautify the building which created stipulations for the apartments the landlord was renting. One of those stipulations was that a family of four could not have an income higher than a what-will-remain-anonymous-amount per year. So that put us out of the running.

While we're bummed we didn't get the apartment, what an eye-opener for me - the girl who thinks taking a pay cut will be hard. I mean, yeah, it will be hard... but not living-off-of-unsaid-amount hard. Our pay cut's not that steep. So, from that perspective, not getting an apartment because you make too much money should never be discouraging. Be thankful you have the income you do.

That being said, I have so many things to be thankful for, even in just the past couple days:
  1. We failed to get the apartment because we make too much money. I should constantly be thanking the Lord for what He's blessed us with, realizing that many people live on much, much less. Not getting the apartment isn't a bad thing, it's just another indication of how much God has already given us.
  2. Abilene's top left tooth broke through so it seems like she's feeling much better!
  3. Last night, the hubs and I had a coupon code for a free pizza from Papa John's and a little over $3 left on a gift card to a local restaurant that we hadn't used since (wait for it...) 2007! The restaurant honored what was left on the card and, between that and Papa John's, we got a large pizza, wings and 2 liter of Pepsi for just over $4 last night! I don't know why food always tastes better when you feel like you scored big time on the price.... but it does :)  ...and it was so good :)
  4. The hubs has put so many things on Craigslist to sell and some of them already have.
  5. I bought my little sister's birthday gift on Amazon last night and got $10 off by using Swagbucks (love me some Swagbucks).
  6. The hubs and I get to go on a date to Olive Garden tonight :) It's the hubs favorite restaurant. And it's another gift card :) The closest Olive Garden to Saranac Lake is literally 67.15 miles away (yep, I looked it up). Mapquest says that it would take us 1 hour and 55 minutes to get there - not including the time you would be on a FERRY crossing into the state of Vermont. Hooray for Italian that's still close by!
  7. Good gracious! Only 18 days till we close on the house (barring everything goes through)! Officially started packing yesterday!
  8. Abilene's a pro at giving kisses. I know we'll want her to lose this talent before puberty but, for right now, it's just about the cutest darn thing in the world.

But enough about me! What are you thankful for?

  1. I'm thankful for you and Brad, Abilene and the little one to come! - meeting you and having your friendship! I am sad that you will not be 'down the road' a luxury I didn't utilize enough by the way! But so thankful that it has worked out that you will be back in Saranac!!! ......and I am thankful for a friend in Saranac that I am coming to visit!

    1. Aw, Tammie, you are too kind. We will miss you for sure but yes, barring we actually have a place to stay ourselves, you're welcome to stay there too :) You're the best!

    1. No worries, Erin! When we moved to Chambersburg, we didn't find an apartment until literally the last hour we were visiting and it was so much more than we could have ever hoped for. Without being cliche, God is faithful for sure. So excited that you can spy on us in person soon!!

p.s. I've already started dreaming about the "Canning Blog Series" I'm going to ask you to co-host me on when you teach me your crazy-canning ways!
