Dirty Feet
Wow, the weather has been so nice lately! So nice, in fact, that Abilene has gone back to sporting just a onesie.
Look at those skinny, little legs. Definitely inherited Brad's metabolism.
Last time Abilene was wearing just a onesie on a daily basis, she was itty bitty and stayed in pretty much the same place you left her.
Now she can crawl and stand and get around with the best of them.
Which caused me to noticed this the other day:
"She's on tonight, you know her feet don't lie..." (sing it, Shakira). From the looks of it, you'd think we were outside. Nope, definitely inside. Guess we should do a little spring cleaning.
Abilene will turn 1 at the end of this month. Everyone warned me that the year would go by fast and, as hard as I tried to slow it down, it's here. And it was fast.
This was the first time I've actually seen her feet with dirt on them. Wow, makes her seem a lot less like a baby and much more like a toddler. Kind of exciting, kind of sad.
It's such an interesting feeling: to be so ecstatic about every new stage your babe is growing into and also never wishing the current stage to pass... all at the same time. Emotions are such an interesting and amazing gift from God.
The good thing about dirty feet is that dirty feet need to be bathed and Abilene loves her baths!
She splashes, she drinks, she plays, she lets water run all over her face and squeals in delight.
She also has awesome bath hair.
Bath time is pretty much some of the best 10 minutes ofmy her day.
But as much as I love kissing Abilene's clean, little feet, I almost hope that - as she grows - her feet are dirty more than they are clean. I hope our kids are outside more than they are in. And I definitely don't want them to be afraid of getting messy. I want them to explore and pretend and build and dream. We'll be living in a National Park for goodness sakes.
Don't worry though, I do still want to make sure Abilene grows up with a healthy understanding of personal hygiene. We want to be mountain people but not those mountain people. Plus baths are super fun so the night we saw those little dirty feet we cleaned Abilene right up.
And we took care of those dirty little feet. At least until they get dirty again tomorrow.
Oh Brooke, you did not just paint that little girl's 11 month old toes.
Oh, yes. I most definitely did.
