Sabbath
Man, does Saturday feel good.
It's a rainy one. And perfect timing. Rain has a way of slowing everyone down and today, a slow down is just what we need.
We have been so incredibly busy. The hubs has pulled 12-14 hours days every day this week... at least. Next week will probably look the same. The move is coming so quickly and, while we're accomplishing a lot, it still seems like there's so much to do.
God is so smart, ya know? He created a Sabbath because He knows we need it. We're human and, in layman's terms, that means we're limited. We can only go so far, we can only push so long, we can only do so much before all of us - even those of us who don't believe in God - have to stop.
Some people think that being "limited" is a bad thing. We don't want to admit it. We want to think we're capable of not needing anything or anyone else. Oh no, I'm fine, thank you.
God creating a Sabbath is only more proof of how much He loves us. He knows us - to the core. He knows we can't go forever. In fact, the need to rest around every 6 days seems just about right. I don't know about you but if the hubs and I haven't had a break in over 6 days, I get pretty cranky pretty quickly. And, trust me, no one likes to see a cranky Brooke.
A Sabbath is exactly what I need. A day of rest. And in resting, I'm admitting that God is right - that I can't do life myself. And admitting that I can't do life myself put's Him back in first place in my soul.... which is the point of the Sabbath - to glorify and honor God.
Funny how those things work out. Every time I put God first, I also receive just what I need. It's a win-win situation.
It's raining today. And it's exactly what's necessary to help me make today a Sabbath because next week is coming. We need this Sabbath so we can make sure next week happens. And, ironically, it's stopping today - not crossing more things off our list - that will ensure that happens.
