Housewarming Gift
So a water line broke in the bottom of our apartment building the other day and we didn't have hot water for 24 hours. Definitely not the end of the world or anything but, wow, did I take hot water for granted! Taking a shower, washing the dishes, washing your face, on and on and on. I had no idea I used hot water so many times in one day until we didn't have it! Good news is that the hot water is now back on and both Abilene and I are so fresh and so clean, clean.
I don't know what it is about losing hot water but apparently it means that you should pull out some fabric, find your sewing kit and make a couple things by hand because that's what ended up happening.
My good friends, Megan and Candice, moved into a new apartment so I threw something together yesterday for their new space. I don't have many of my crafty things up here (they're all still at the hub's parent's house) but I found a frame I could replace, some of the fabric from Abilene's Weekly Photo Shoot and a travel-sized sewing kit. Oh, the possibilities!
I took a little jaunt through Megan and Candice's Pinterest pages to see if I could pull off something that would fit their tastes. Hope I succeeded because here's the end result:
It's not big, just two 4x6 frames hinged together. The left side has a quote by J. Elliot that the hubs loves, "Wherever you are, be all there." It was also a quote that Megan pinned so those two facts plus being in a new place made the quote seem very fitting.
I actually stitched the words right onto two pieces of printer paper and then stitched the paper to the fabric. Clearly, I need to work on my embroidery skillzzz but hey, the handmade look is in... right?
The right side is a silhouette of New York State with a heart stitched over Saranac Lake. I know you're concerned about the accuracy of the heart's geographical location and, yes, it's geographically correct... yeah, right, I'm what you would call an "eye-baller" when it comes to doing... well, pretty much anything.
I took the frame over to Megan and Candice's new place with these little mounds of goodness:
Their real name is Peanut Butter Corn Flake Balls but I guess Susan, over at Sticky, Gooey, Creamy, Chewy, renamed them HolyCrapTheseAreAmazing Cookies. I'm cool with that name - they are pretty dang good. They're super easy too. Definitely going down as a "yay" in history on my Yay or Nay Pinterest Board. Her picture does them much better justice than mine though:
For the record, I did try to drizzle the chocolate on the cookies and make them all pretty like Susan's but the chocolate just wasn't workin' with me that day so my drizzles became plops. Lucky for me, plops of chocolate taste just as good as drizzles. Crisis averted.
I'm also working on a little project for a quarter (yes, a quarter) but it's not quite finished yet. Turns out, projects with a 13-month-old take a little longer than they did pre-13-month-old. I can't wait to show it to you though!
In other news, it's Saturday, people! If you have hot water, remind yourself how awesome it is, take a steamy shower, make a gift for a friend (because it's nice, duh) and make some HolyCrapTheseAreAwesome Cookies.
Happy Saturday, everybody!
